This is kind of a fun one for me, wrote it in a style like spoken word and rap blend. Although fun, it’s still meaningful and important and related to sobriety. Enjoy.
Gregory Scott Gentry II
Yo, two and a half, man, that’s a whole vibe,
From the ashes of the past to the fire inside.
Used to drown in a bottle, couldn’t stay afloat,
Now I’m steering this ship, no cap, no coat.
Late nights had me lost in a hazy abyss,
Chasing highs, but I missed what the low really is.
The mirror was a stranger, didn’t know that guy,
But now I’m meeting myself, sober, eye to eye.
I flipped the script, had to rewrite the plot,
Took the pain, made it art, now I’m taking my shot.
No chaser, no mixer, just truth on the rocks,
Clocked in for my life, I’m done punching the clock.
Every setback? Fuel for the grind,
Every stumble? A lesson to sharpen my mind.
The nights were cold, but the flame stayed lit,
Two and a half, and I’m owning this sh*t.
My rhythm’s clean, no distortion, no static,
Cut the habit, now I’m flexing on automatic.
Every second sober’s like a diamond in my hand,
Built a castle out of ruins, yeah, I’m taking a stand.
They said, “You’ll slip,” but I proved ‘em wrong,
Got the strength in my veins, and the will stays strong.
Every scar is a story, every tear’s a page,
I’m a warrior, baby, breaking out of the cage.
No more nights where I’m fading away,
I’m present, I’m breathing, I’m living today.
Two and a half years—ain’t a sprint, it’s a race,
But I’m lapping my demons at a steady pace.
The past? It’s a lesson, the present is my muse,
With Him as my author, no way I’ll lose.
This is my rhythm, my sober rhyme,
Two and a half years, and I’m right on time.
